A Cake Smash!

I love first birthdays. Confession: I started planning my son's first birthday party when he was 6 months old. I spent way too much time (and money) hand-crafting all the decorations (yep, even the invitations, each of which required cutting and gluing over 20 pieces during assembly), setting up a photo booth with mustaches and sombreros for our Cinco de Mayo theme, and putting together a Pinterest-worth candy bar. It was over the top and our future children won't get anything remotely close to it, but it was fun to do nonetheless.

One of my favorite parts about first birthdays is when the birthday child gets their cake. For most, its their first-ever taste of dessert and their reactions are priceless! It kills me that I don't have any good photos of C destroying his cake. This was before I had a "real" camera, and on top of that, the camera's focus had locked in on the cake and not his gigantic smile so his face is blurry in all my photos. Ugh!

Fortunately, baby A's first birthday cake smash pictures turned out adorably. She was hilarious--once she got her first taste of cupcake, her hand was glued to her mouth. It literally did not move until we were cleaning her up! She did a fabulous job eating, smearing, and smashing, it was so fun to capture. Happy birthday A!
